Background

Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recognizes the equal right of all persons with disabilities to live in the community, with choices equal to others, and shall take effective and appropriate measures to facilitate full enjoyment by persons with disabilities of this right and their full inclusion and participation in the community

The Family-centered Support and Open Services are an outpatient specialist service and constitute an integral part of IB’s process and service chain for people with disabilities. The Family-centered Support and Open Services are part of a community based and integrated support service which focuses on participation and social integration. The services contributes to the realization of Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities “Living independently and being included in the community”.

Objective

As part of IB’s holistic approach on social protection, the measure provides individual assistance for persons with mental, physical or psychological disabilities, who live on their own or in their family. The services are tailored to the needs, abilities and interest of the individual. Promotion of self-sufficiency (e.g. dealing with money or use of public transport), cognitive, social, creative development and communicative competences (e.g. use of internet, mobile devices, etc.) as well as social integration form an important aspect of this measure. The services enable a better work-family balance of families with dependent members.

Type of Services Provided

  • Individual consultancy seminars for people with disability and family dependents in order improve social inclusion;
  • Training and education of life skills and self-sufficiency;
  • Psychological management (e.g. crisis intervention);
  • Personal career counselling;
  • Promotion of voluntary work;
  • Institutional capacity building;
  • Consulting services and advice for the client in close consultation and cooperation with the responsible public authorities, and
  • Quality management according EFQM standards
