We expect more commitment from the German government for a livable future for all people.

In 2015, all countries committed to implementing the 2030 Agenda with 17 Sustainable Development Goals, including: no poverty, no hunger, health, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and decent work.

By 2030, the 17 goals should be achieved. There are clear strategies and plans to implement them. But time is running out. More than seven years have passed, and despite some progress on poverty reduction, we are seeing increased regression since the Corona pandemic: more and more people are going hungry, humanitarian needs are reaching new highs, the destruction of our planet is progressing, and more than 650 million people live on less than $2.15 a day.

Despite all this, billions of dollars in cuts to development cooperation and humanitarian aid budgets are on the table.

Please also read the current analysis of the draft budget 2024 by our network partner VENRO. In it, VENRO makes clear that development cooperation and humanitarian aid will be significantly weakened by the planned cuts. Even more: With this draft budget, the German government withdraws from its international responsibility - far-reaching political and social consequences are threatening.

We call on the German government to live up to its responsibility!

1. get it done:

The German government must do everything it can now to fight poverty and hunger worldwide, reduce social inequality, stop the destruction of our planet, achieve gender justice and end structural discrimination and exploitation of people. There are just under seven years left to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.

2. Secure funding:

Development cooperation, international climate finance, humanitarian aid and civil peace work are investments in our future. They must be better funded immediately. Plans for budget cuts must be overturned.

3 Strengthen civil society:

Civil society organizations are doing important work in Germany and around the world to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Their knowledge must be better utilized and their commitment more strongly supported.
