The Skills4Trends project in Egypt has played a key role in strengthening professional capacities while actively supporting the country’s transition towards renewable energy. One of the program’s beneficiaries, Mechanical Engineer Eng. Asmaa Abdou, recently appeared on the “Evening Talk” TV program to share her insights on the growing significance of solar energy in Egypt. Drawing from her practical experience with the BMZ/sequa/IB/SCIA/ABA-VTEC initiative, she highlighted not only the technical potential of solar power but also the broader social responsibility that comes with its adoption. As Egypt works toward raising its share of renewable energy from 5% in 2023 to 22% by 2035, Eng. Abdou emphasized that this ambitious goal is within reach, with the right combination of sustained investment, hands-on training, and increased public engagement.
This conversation reflects the dual mission of the Skills4Trends project: developing a skilled workforce while fostering a culture of clean energy awareness. While training programs are equipping the next generation of solar professionals, broader societal understanding is just as critical. Challenges such as high battery costs, limited rooftop space, and a shortage of skilled labor require both technical solutions and a shift in mindset. Informed citizens, accessible financial instruments, and a shared sense of energy responsibility, drawing inspiration from models like Germany, will be essential to driving Egypt’s long-term success in renewable energy.
