Four years of war: Internationaler Bund emphasizes the continuation of its support for Ukraine

A new aid initiative by the Internationaler Bund (IB) is intended to support people in Ukraine who, due to Russian attacks, often have no heating or cooking facilities for many days.

The Internationaler Bund (IB) emphasizes its continued support for Ukraine on February 24. It marks the fourth anniversary of the Russian attack on the neighboring country, which is still ongoing with undiminished intensity.

The result is hundreds of thousands of deaths on both sides, including many civilian victims in Kyiv, Donetsk, and Kharkiv. More than one million Ukrainians fled to Germany. Some were accommodated in IB facilities and in some cases still live there today.

“Without any justification, Putin is bringing immense suffering upon an entire country. I say this clearly: he is a war criminal and is waging a ruthless war against the civilian population. That is why we have supported Ukraine from the very beginning,” says Thiemo Fojkar, Chairman of the Board of the IB.

IB Polska offers integration services, language courses, career counseling, as well as legal and psychological support.

In the Polish city of Kraków, the IB Polska operates a multicultural center as well as a neighborhood center, and in the city of Tychy a social and educational center, among others for those who have fled the war. These facilities provide various integration activities and language courses as well as career counseling. In addition, psychological and legal support is available there.

Those Ukrainians who have remained in their homeland suffer particularly during the winter months from Putin’s targeted attacks on electricity and energy networks. Often facing double-digit sub-zero temperatures, they must manage without heating or cooking facilities.

For this reason, the Internationaler Bund (IB) has launched another aid initiative for Ukraine: the production of can candles. They provide long-lasting warmth and light, and can even be used to heat a meal. All IB facilities across Germany are called upon to participate. The candles are collected centrally in Frankfurt am Main and then sent to IB Polska, from where they are transported to Ukraine. Questions can be addressed to the IB’s central corporate communications.
