Helping Foreign Care Workers Feel at Home in Germany: IB offers a free intercultural training program covering work, society, language, finances, and everyday life

The Internationaler Bund (IB) is now providing a free intercultural online training program for migrant care workers. The program is called WeCare4You and is specifically designed for people who come to Germany from abroad to work in the care sector.

“The demand for qualified care workers in Germany remains high, while the supply is limited. For this reason, many providers recruit staff from abroad. However, those who come to Germany face not only professional challenges but also linguistic, social, and cultural ones.” Thiemo Fojkar, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Internationaler Bund

WeCare4You is based on the experiences of care workers from Colombia and Tunisia who have already taken the step to Germany

The aim of the **Erasmus+ Programme-funded program WeCare4You is to make it easier to settle into a new environment. It is intended to support the transition phase with practical learning opportunities. The training includes five digital modules covering topics related to work, society, language, finances, and everyday life. These modules can be used independently of one another and in any desired order. The program also includes tools such as avatars, videos, and quiz formats to make the learning content more engaging.

All content is based on the experiences of Colombian and Tunisian care workers who have already taken the step to Germany or are considering doing so. The Bundesverband Berufsbildung International (BvBBI), of which the IB is a member, developed WeCare4You together with the project partner ipcenter. The Internationaler Bund was also significantly involved in the conception and implementation of the program and offers the training through the IB Online Akademie.

Care workers can complete the program independently. In addition, trainers can use the five modules flexibly—digitally, in person, or through blended learning. The accompanying handbook provides teaching guidance for each module. Ultimately, the goal is for people from other countries to feel fully comfortable in Germany—and ideally remain in the country in the long term.
