Frankfurt / Oswiecim, 06 June 2023: A delegation of the Internationaler Bund (IB) and the Internationaler Bund Polska Foundation visited together the memorial site of the former concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in the Polish city of Oswiecim. The participants laid flowers at the so-called Wall of Death. Inmates had been regularly shot there by guards between 1941 and 1945.

"Auschwitz, one of the dark places in history, always confronts us with the question: why did this happen? At the same time, visiting this place strengthens our determination to work to ensure that such a crime will never be possible again. It is important that young people have the opportunity to visit similar memorials in Poland, Germany and throughout Europe. In addition, civic education and international cooperation as well as international youth work are very helpful, because with it we strengthen the liberal democratic basic order," said the IB President Petra Merkel afterwards.
