From 2018 to the beginning of 2021, the EU-funded Erasmus+ project "InterAct - Interdisciplinary Cooperation for Psychosocial Support for Refugees" was successfully implemented under the leadership of the IB Hochschule für Gesundheit und Soziales.
In response to the sharp increase of refugees who have arrived in Europe since 2015, different projects for psychosocial support were developed in different European countries by experts from different disciplines. The project "Interact" aimed to include the transfer of results and experiences from projects in different European countries into regular psychosocial support practice, teaching and research, to support the promotion of interdisciplinary cooperation in teaching, psychosocial practice and research and to support the creation of international cooperation and exchange of experiences. "The international exchange of experience on psychosocial support practice for refugees is an important contribution to improving and expanding our services for refugees in Europe," confirms Karola Becker, member of the IB Board.
The project is based on the experience of working with refugees across different disciplines such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, education and psychology from 2018-2020. The project involved also HCI Productions from Finland, the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece, the Universitat de Vic from Spain and the Karolinska Institutet from Sweden. During the two-year project, experiences were collected and reflected together with refugees, volunteers, practitioners, students and teaching colleagues from different health and social disciplines in higher education.
