The project aims to improve the employment situation of women and men aged 15 to 35 in the regions of Fès-Meknès and Béni Mellal-Khénifra (central Morocco).
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and has been active since 2015. Around 2500 young people have already found work through the project. The IB wants to make an active contribution to supporting the people in our partner countries with its expertise in the field of vocational education and training, as well as in the field of employment promotion. The team was happy that the work could be continued despite the difficult pandemic conditions.
The project is currently in its final phase. In the 26 months it has been running, it has supported the expansion of the network of career counselling centres that accompany and place young jobseekers. To this end, the counsellors working in the job centres were trained in various areas to better serve young jobseekers, for example in soft skills and gender training as well as in qualifications on entrepreneurship. In addition, a series of short-term trainings adapted to rural conditions were offered to rural youth to teach technical skills that in turn improve employability. The focus was on relevant labour market sectors in the two project regions, such as the promotion of rural tourism, renewable energy and pre-school education.
The trainings had to be adapted due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Where possible, the trainings were held in an online format and all rural participants were equipped with tablets to participate in the trainings.
