The IB Promotes Quality Education in Georgia

The Internationaler Bund (IB) has been involved in the education sector in Tbilisi, Georgia, since 2008 with the IB-Mthiebi Boarding School. This is another way in which the IB contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted as part of the 2030 Agenda - in this case SDG 1 “no poverty, SDG 4 “quality education” and SDG 8 “decent work and economic growth”. The IB-Mthiebi Boarding School prepares its students in an exemplary manner to later take up a decent job.

In May 2023, representatives of the Internationaler Bund (IB) from Germany travelled to Georgia and visited the school, which is currently attended by around 1400 children and young people - 60 of whom receive state funding. The three-level educational institution consists of a preschool, an elementary school and a secondary school and is certified according to ISO and OHSAS.

The standard of the IB-Mthiebi Boarding School is high. In 2015, it was named Georgia's best school in a state competition and received a gold medal. The quality is noticeable: After successfully completing their schooling, graduates start working in Georgian as well as foreign companies - with a placement rate of 100 percent.

This is not a matter of course in Georgia. Overall, the country's economic and social situation is difficult: About one third of the population lives below the poverty line, unemployment and underemployment are high, especially in rural areas.

For the guests from Germany, the high professionalism of the school operation was clearly visible - both in terms of the teachers present and the operation itself. In the course of the visit, many strategic agreements were reached to strengthen cooperation and work together even more effectively in the future. Among other things, possibilities for a student exchange with the IB in Germany were discussed.
